Pond Skimming Championship In Vail, CO 2010

Last weekend in town here at Vail, Colorado we had the world championship pond skimming tournament.

Every year on the last day of skiing, the mountain hosts this crazy tournament where skiers and snowboarders try to skim across a pond of water.

Check out these funny videos of some of the contestants. By the way, out of 100 contestants, only 5 made it across the pond.

I just got off the slopes snowboarding in Vail, Colorado with master copy writer Matt Heinzel and my sister Coral. I took some videos with my mini camcorder and created this quick video using a free service called Animoto.

Animoto allows you create quick and easy videos within seconds by uploading any pictures, videos, or soundtracks you have. It will create a stunning slide show or a animated video of anything you upload into the system.

* The only problem with the video above is that "I'm not in it..." - I was recording these shots when my camcorder ran out of battery. Next time I will have someone take some shots of me :)

Beware Of Email Scams

I was digging through my inbox today and I found a few emails that were trying to scam me.

The first email was pretending to be from chase bank asking me to re-enter all my credit card and banking information online. Your bank will NEVER ask for this information over the internet.

The second email was a fake bill trying to get me to pay registration fees for domains I own even though I never registered them from this fake company in the first place.

Both of these emails are outright scams and I deleted them right away. Watch out all my fellow internet friends and be sure that you don’t become victim to scam emails like these. Never send your personal information over the internet unless you are sure it’s safe and always think twice before you open a suspicious email.

My Craigslist Visitor Value is $1.16

Today I have a funny marketing statistic to share with you. I was recently tracking the conversion rate of an Ad I posted on Craigslist and I found out that my VPV (Value Per Visitor) was $1.16

Let me explain:

Last week I posted an Ad on Craigslist in my local city of San Diego to sell my potters wheel that has been gathering dust in my garage. I set the price at $300 firm and 7 days later someone came to my house and purchased it from me.

Well I decided to look at my CraigsList tracking tool I created at http://www.MyURLTracker.com and I found out that I only had 258 unique visitors visit my Craigslist Ad before I made the sale. When I crunched the numbers I found out that equals to a visitor value of $1.16 (That's awesome!)

I crunched some numbers again and I found out that my conversion rate was a dismal .38% however the traffic is free so I'm not going to gripe about that too much... LOL

Besides I didn't really use any of my genius sales copy tactics on that ad which would have resulted in a higher conversion and more money but to be honest I didn't really care to spend too much time on it.

Now maybe it's just the "geek" in me and my love for crunching numbers but I thought that was pretty cool. A $1.16 visitor value is great especially when the traffic is 100% free.

I’ve Been Invited Into Google Voice

A few days ago Google personally invited me to test out and use their brand new Google Voice service. I have been lucky enough to be one of the few people Google has invited to use this brand new service.

Google Voice is a brand new service that is currently in Beta and can only be used by people who have received an offical invite by Google.

So what is Google Voice and why is it so cool?

Basically, Google Voice allows you to choose one phone number that you can use for all your phones. When someone calls your spcecial Google phone number it can redirect that caller to any of your other phones lines... or all of them at once.

You can even create groups of people who will only ring certain phone numbers when they call.

For example: If you family calls your Google number you can have it ring all of your phones at once like your office, cell, and work phone. Or if your boss calls you can have the call sent straight to voicemail (that's awesome) and if your coworkers call you can have Google send the phone call to your office number only.

My two favorite features of Google Voice is the reverse call back technology and the ability to create an unlimited amount of personal voicemail messages for indivual callers.

Listen in - Listen before taking a call
Block calls - Keep unwanted callers at bay
SMS - Send, receive, and store SMS
Place calls - Call US numbers for free

So far Google Voice has been working great and I have been giving my Google Phone number out to everyone. It's another amazing FREE tool from Google.
